Typically, fiber to the home (FTTH) networks will terminate the fiber at the side of the house and transition to copper cables; whether CAT5, coax and/or twisted pair (CAT3). To truly future proof, you could install fiber within the home; probably a couple of multimode fibers to each room.

residential fiber install question

Hi,

I am rewiring a house with electical, coaxial, and CAT5-e. All the lower power wire will be run to a central location in the basement.

fiber optic cable is not yet available in my area, but I'd like to future proof my house for when fiber optic is available. Does fiber optic convert to ethernet at some point, or should i run fiber optic cable in the house now?

Thanks for the advice.
