I would be willing to help you with your project if you contact me. I will need a little more information about what type of equipment you are using and if you want to run fiber to the desk or use copper to the desk and fiber from one equipment room to another. Also the distance is a factor because copper has a max distance of 900 feet. If you choose to use copper to the desk the size of the building would be a factor. I have 17 years experience in splicing fiber optic cable and I am looking for the opportunity to travel to Dubai for work. jensgear@sbcglobal.net

I am new to fiber optics and have a concern in fiber optic backbone cabling. I am preparing the bill of material for Structured cabling of a 3 storeyed building

Each floor has 200 users each, all of them are connected to IDF on each floor, which inturn is connected to an MDF on each floor.

My confusion is about the fiber backbone from each floor to MDF. How many cores fiber is required from each floor ? and how about the connections from fiber patch panel to the active switch ? What is the criteria in determining the number of cores of fiber in backbone cabling?

Highly appreciate for your helpful reply
